Woollen yarn production: how is woollen-spun yarn made?
Woolen / woollen spinning, also called strayhgarn in Turkey: blending, carding, spinning and sample checks when choosing sweater yarn.

Woolen, woollen and strayhgarn
Woolen and woollen are two spellings of the same English term. In Turkey, you may also encounter strayhgarn, or straygarn in searches. The term describes a yarn preparation and spinning system, not just a fibre. Consequently, ‘wool yarn’ and ‘woollen-spun yarn’ are not interchangeable in every context.
The main production stages
The general process comprises fibre cleaning, blend preparation, opening and mixing by carding, preparation of strands and spinning. In woollen spinning, fibres are less parallel than in the worsted system, allowing a bulky, hairy surface to be developed. Blend and colour development can take place at different stages depending on the production plan. This overview is not a declaration of every machine and processing step used in a particular factory.
How to request a woollen yarn quotation
Provide the end use, target handle, count, ply, number of colours and quantity together. A yarn for a bulky sweater has different requirements from one intended for a compact woven surface. Reviewing a knitted or woven sample before ordering is more reliable than deciding from the appearance of the yarn on a cone.
The Bark Yarn programme
You can request technical information and samples from Bark Yarn for woollen-spun, wool and wool-blend yarns. The general programme covers Nm 3.5–26 with various ply options; do not assume that every blend is available in every count and ply. Let us specify the selected quality, colour reference and delivery plan clearly in the quotation.
