How to choose sock yarn: a guide to wool sock yarns
Consider wool–nylon blends, count, ply, abrasion, dimensions and care expectations together when selecting sock yarn.

Define how the socks will be used
Everyday socks, thick winter socks and socks worn inside shoes for long periods do not have identical requirements. Season, target thickness, machine and knit structure are the starting points for choosing sock yarn. Focusing only on colour and price can delay the discovery of important differences until sampling.
Choosing wool and blends
Wool is considered for sock development because it can contribute to moisture exchange and thermal insulation. If choosing a wool–nylon blend, state the proportion of nylon, also known as polyamide, explicitly. A blend name alone does not guarantee a particular wear life or comfort level; the finished socks must be tested.
A sample checklist
Include composition percentages, count and ply, target sock dimensions, colour reference and care conditions in the enquiry. Evaluate high-friction areas such as heels and toes, dimensions after wear, rib behaviour and appearance after washing. The buyer and manufacturer should agree the test method and acceptance limits before ordering.
Wholesale sock yarn enquiries
You can submit a technical enquiry to Bark Yarn for sock yarn and wool–nylon options. The general Nm 3.5–26 programme does not mean every quality suits every sock-knitting machine. Starting with machine details and a sample product helps narrow down suitable qualities. Exact composition, count, quantities per colour and lead time are confirmed separately.
